Cultural Tourism can hold promise for organizations and communities; among other things, it can showcase place-based cultural achievements for the enjoyment of residents, engage or educate visitors, and advance the development of a local cultural economy. However, cultural tourism must consider how to think about or shape culture to meet the requirements of the visitor sector. This interactive session has two parts: First, participants will create an understanding of what cultural tourism is, how culture and tourism interact, and gain an understanding for how it can support achieving goals that are mutually beneficial for cultural sector producers (artists, cultural agents, organizations, etc.) and their potential audiences, residents and visitors. The second part will be a hands-on exploration of what is involved when shaping culture into cultural tourism.
